RAM - 8th Animal Sign of Chinese Astrology

The Character of the Ram

The Ram is the eight animal in the cycle of twelve and corresponds to the Earthly Branch Wei. The Ram is matched to the six month of the year and its favourable hours are between 1 and 3 p.m. Wei represents the silence before action begins. The Ram controls the time of harvest, when the yang is at its strongest and is ready for its move to yin.

You have a mild and amenable character and a sensitive nature that appreciates the simple things in life. You are the most peaceful and gentle of the twelve animals, but you are also hesitant and nervous. You worry over minor matters and prefer to leave your decisions to fate. You dislike making rules as much as you dislike living according to rules. Your bad time-keeping often embarrasses your friends, and your lack of confidence makes you unsuitable for positions of responsibility. Others are hurt and annoyed by your obstinacy, hesitancy and dissatisfaction with your life and your belongings. But your kindness and care for the sick and the poor are redeeming points of your character.

You can adapt to any career or life style as long as you are comfortable. You are interested in spiritual matters and are likely to hold strong religious beliefs. Although your inventiveness and adaptability are suited to most types of occupation, you avoid menial or dirty jobs. If you are wealthy and well provided for, you are content and will try to maintain that standard, but you are quickly dissatisfied as soon as problems arise or work becomes difficult. You like to give orders but are too hesitant to give them efficiently. Try to accept orders rather than give them. Your luck will improve gradually and you will be successful if you work in an efficient leader and in pleasant conditions. You are a daydreamer and need someone to guide and protect you through life. As long as you are offered educational opportunities you will be a good artist or scholar. Avoid disciplined jobs or a career that requires leadership qualities.

Women born in this year are attractive and beautiful but they are also shy and easily embarrassed. They are frightened to speak or attract attention in public places and blush when complimented. Men born in this year are confident, attractive and emotionally controlled. They are careful not to reveal their feelings until they are sure that they will be reciprocated. Avoid marrying someone born in the Year of the Ram; he/ she would be a good lover but not a reliable marriage partner, though he/she would not quarrel or argue.

Someone born in the year of the Rabbit, the Horse or the Pig would make a good marriage or business partner. The Chinese call this combination a San Ho or Three Harmony. Someone born in the year of the Rabbit holds passionate beliefs and can be a good financial and social organizer. A Rabbit person would provide you with a safe, happy home. Someone born in the year of the Horse is selfish and independent but would nevertheless take care of you because you are so dependent on others. Someone born in the year of the Pig is a hard worker and capable of earning a good living. You would be able to share his/her fortune and fame.

You are not well matched to any of the remaining of animal signs. Avoid marrying someone born in the year of the Ox. Your dependent, hesitant nature is unsuited to the Ox’s earnest, hardworking character. You are not suited to someone born in the year of the Dog, who lacks confidence, or to someone born in the year of the Rat, who will never reveal his/her thoughts or feelings. A partnership or marriage with a Dog or a Rat person would be fraught with disasters and unhappiness.
